Assumptionistas deliver relief to a thousand families

ILOILO CITY – Members of High school Class 1976 of the Assumption Convent here distributed relief goods to families in five barangays severely affected by typhoon “Frank” which hit ILOILO CITY last June 21.

An initial P200,000 worth of goods, that included 1,000 water containers, blankets, plates, and noodles where distributed to affected families in Brgys. Taft North and Sta. Rosa in Mandurriao district and Brgys. Calubihan Dungon A and B in Jaro District.

ILOILO CITY First Lady Rosarie Treñas together with lawyer Romela Bengzon and Class President Jane Campos, led members of the Assumptions Class ’76 in the distribution that catered to almost 1,000 family-beneficiaries.
Romela Bengzon said that some of the donations came from the business sector in Metro Manila and were transported to Iloilo City with the help of Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and Trade Secretary Peter Favila, who were present in a luncheon hosted by Class ’76 on July 1 prior to the distribution of the relief goods. Both secretaries were here to attend the Cabinet meeting with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the Iloilo airport in Cabanatuan, Iloilo.
Romela Bengzon also said that Class ’76 will form a foundation that will help Ilonggos until they recover from the tragedy wrought by typhoon “Frank”. She said the next batch of relief goods will be distributed to other recipients once it arrives in Iloilo City from donors in Metro Manila.
Other Class ’76 members present during the distributions included Jane Jarantilla, Rose Arenas, Lilibeth Balagtas, Rima Datu-on, Cristina Ng, Nannah Arcenas and Liza Thompson. /PN
